Entergy Arkansas winter storm update – 2/3/23, 10 a.m.

The final line of severe winter weather and freezing rain produced ice of up to half an inch within areas in the southern region of the state, resulting in approximately 53,000 customer outages at peak Thursday afternoon. Currently 32,700 customers are without power.

The state has been hit by multiple waves of winter storm activity since last week. Entergy Arkansas has safely restored approximately 71,000 customer outages since Monday.

We are 60% assessed. With the support of a helicopter in the air this morning, we have identified 144 broken poles, 661 spans of downed wire, and 15 damaged transformers. Most outages are attributed to ice accumulating on trees and tree limbs, causing them to fall onto power lines. Half an inch of ice can increase the weight of a tree limb as much as 30 times, causing limbs to bend, snap or fall. In addition, the extra weight on power lines has caused them to stretch or fall onto roadways, making conditions dangerous for our workers and the public. We have an estimated 2,800 workers engaged and responding to outages as quickly and safely as possible. This includes additional resources that have come to Arkansas from other states to assist with restoration efforts, including scouts, vegetation crews, electricians, track equipment and more.

County Information

 Columbia

The Magnolia area saw a peak of 3,200 customer outages at 7:45 a.m. on Feb. 2. Damage has been largely due to ice accumulating on trees and causing those trees and limbs to fall on our facilities. We have over 150 additional resources to assist this area in restoration. As of 4 p.m. on Feb. 2, approximately 1,566 customers have been restored with about 1,634 outages remaining. The areas with the most damage have been east Columbia Co., McNeil, Stephens, Stamps, Rosston, and Lewisville. We have assessed 60% of the damages and expect to have damage assessment completed by the end of the day Friday, Feb. 3.

Ouachita

The Camden area saw a peak of 3,500 customer outages at 10:45 a.m. on Feb.  2. Damage has been largely due to ice accumulating on trees and causing those trees and limbs to fall on our facilities. We have over 75 additional resources to assist this area in restoration. As of 8 a.m. on Febr. 3, approximately 2,413 customers have been restored with about 1,087 outages remaining. With widespread damage, crews will be working in various sections of Camden. These areas include Cash Rd (south of Fairview), Omega SW, Craig Ave. SW, Harding Ave., Brookridge Dr. NW, Camark Ave., Ridgeview Rd., & Forest NW. Crews will also focus on the lines serving Chidester. We expect to have damage assessment completed by noon Saturday, Feb. 4.

Phillips

Crews in Helena will be working in downtown Helena and The Oakland and surrounding areas including Central School.

Union

The El Dorado area saw a peak of 3,800 customer outages at 10:45 a.m. on Feb. 2. Damage has been largely due to ice accumulating on trees and causing those trees and limbs to fall on our facilities. We have over 75 additional resources to assist this area in restoration. As of 8 a.m. on Feb. 3, approximately 3,343 customers have been restored with about 457 outages remaining. Crews will be working in east Union County, northern areas of El Dorado, Norphlet, Smackover, and areas just north of Luann. We expect to have complete damage assessment by the end of the day Friday, Feb. 3.
