Entergy launches task force to help make energy more affordable for its customers

12/18/2024

As a leader in our communities for more than 100 years, Entergy is committed to keeping our customers' bills affordable, especially for our customers struggling to pay their bills. That’s why earlier this year, we launched our new task force, Leading Energy Affordability for All, or LEAF.

"We are committed to making energy bills affordable, especially for our most vulnerable customers," said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana’s president and CEO. "The federal funds from the Inflation Reduction Act offer a transformative opportunity to enhance our energy efficiency programs. Through the LEAF Task Force, we aim to ensure our customers with low and moderate incomes can benefit from the Home Energy Rebates programs, empowering them to achieve their energy efficiency and financial goals."

Recognizing the profound impact that lower energy consumption can have on our customers' lives and financial well-being, the LEAF Task Force will lead a coalition of external partners to help ensure our communities can benefit from available funds, including the U.S. Department of Energy's Home Energy Rebates programs.

"Our team leverages resources and insights gained from securing funding through federal agencies, such as the Department of Energy, to forge connections between our operating companies and key stakeholders, including state energy offices,” said Jason Reynolds, Entergy’s vice president of federal infrastructure policy. “This collaboration enables us to amplify and strengthen our energy efficiency and customer assistance programs, ultimately delivering enduring benefits to the communities we serve."

The new Home Energy Rebates programs seek to help American families — and especially households with low and moderate incomes — save money on their energy bills, upgrade to clean energy equipment and improve energy efficiency. Through these new programs, the four states in Entergy’s service area of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas have an opportunity to access $1.1 billion in funds awarded to them.

Through the new Home Energy Rebate programs, Entergy’s residential customers could qualify for up to $4,000 in rebates for whole-house energy efficiency retrofits and up to $14,000 in rebates for energy-efficient appliances. Multifamily buildings are also eligible and can qualify for up to $400,000 in rebates.

Each state designs and operates programs tailored to their needs, and different states are at different stages of the application process. Louisiana and Texas have already applied and Entergy’s remaining service area states in Arkansas and Mississippi are finalizing their entries.

Entergy’s LEAF Task Force is essential and will play a vital role in ensuring federal funds are directed to the most vulnerable communities living in our service area. The task force is an extension of our ongoing efforts to ensure a fair share of federal funds are directed to the communities we serve. In addition to pursuing all state and federal funding opportunities available to Entergy, our team is also working with external stakeholders, such as state governments and our Historically Black Colleges and Universities partner institutions, to apply for additional funding opportunities for which Entergy is not eligible.

As we enter 2025, the LEAF Task Force is poised to embark on a stakeholder engagement journey, one that actively engages state officials in our service area to help address and meet our customers’ needs. Together, we want to empower our customers to achieve their budgetary goals in an impactful manner.
