Entergy Louisiana Catapults Green Parking in Downtown Baton Rouge

With a $75,000 sponsorship grant and a quick drive in an electric car with the Baton Rouge mayor, Entergy Louisiana President and CEO Phillip May kicked off the Green Park Baton Rouge program in the North Boulevard Town Square this week.
May joined Mayor Kip Holden and officials with the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, the Louisiana Clean Fuels Initiative and the Capital Area Transit System to unveil the program that will allow drivers of electric cars to charge for free at prime public parking spots.
May said Entergy being the main sponsor of the program makes sense.
“Entergy is proud to be one of the cleanest power producers in the country, so the Louisiana Clean Fuels Initiative is a natural fit,” he said. “These electric charging stations will be beneficial to people who drive electric cars and may even spur others to give them a try. In the long run, it can provide economic benefits for the drivers, as well as environmental benefits for all of us.”
Entergy's donation allowed for the purchase and installation of the first 11 charging stations in the downtown area.
Drivers can charge for free up to four hours. The only limit is that they must pay for parking in the designated spaces. Ultimately, the City-Parish and its partners in the Green Park Baton Rouge program hope to add close to 50 new electric vehicle charging stations throughout the parish at popular destinations and local businesses.
