Entergy Mississippi Hurricane Francine update – 9/12/24, 1 p.m.

09/12/2024

Hurricane Francine, currently a tropical depression, continues moving northeastward from Louisiana through Mississippi. At 7 a.m., we had approximately 10,790 customer outages in the southern portion of our Entergy Mississippi territory. Outages are expected to fluctuate throughout the day as the storm moves through our service area and, therefore, are subject to change based upon the storm’s impact.

We have assembled a team of over 1,500 linemen, vegetation workers, damage assessors and support personnel to work with our Entergy teams in the restoration process. We stand ready as Francine continues to impact our service area and are responding by assessing damage and restoring service to our customers where it is safe to do so.

As restoration continues, keep in mind that if you don’t see us working near you, we may be working on another part of the electrical system that you can’t see but that must be repaired to get power to you. However, we also must wait until sustained winds are less than 30 mph to use our bucket trucks. Significant flooding and other accessibility challenges due to the storm may affect our ability to reach some areas of our territory and could delay providing estimated restoration times in those communities.

While we are assessing damage, we will continue restoring service where it is safe to do so. Our damage assessors are determining the exact cause and how long it is expected to take to correct the problem. We will begin to communicate more information on estimated restoration times as damage assessment progresses. For estimated restoration times, view our outage map at entergy.com/view-outages.

Please remember, Entergy restoration workers cannot restore power to a location with a damaged meter base, conduit or weather head (the metal pipe extending upward from the structure with electrical cables inside). These items must be repaired by a qualified electrician before our workers can restore power. Learn more about the electrical equipment that serves your home.

As with any weather event, please be mindful of the following safety tips:

  • Live wires can be deadly. Stay away from downed power lines. Call 1-800-9OUTAGE or 1-800-968-8243 to report downed or dangling power lines, damaged or downed poles or other damaged equipment.
  • Do not trim trees or remove debris on or near downed power lines. Only power company crews or their contractors should remove trees or limbs touching power lines. Again, stay away from downed power lines.
  • Keep away from the immediate areas where crews are working. There is always the danger of moving equipment and the possibility of construction materials, limbs or overhead wires falling to the ground.
  • If you plan on using a generator for temporary power, get a licensed electrician and disconnect from the utility electric system before hooking up to your main electric panel.
  • Do not run a generator in a confined space without adequate ventilation. Use them only outdoors, following all manufacturers’ safety guidelines.
  • Turn off any electrical appliances that can easily be turned to the off position until power is restored.
