Entergy Monitoring Gulf, Atlantic Weather Systems

Customers encouraged to be prepared should severe weather impact our area.
Entergy personnel continue monitoring and planning for potential impacts to its service territories from Tropical Depression 8 in the Gulf of Mexico. We also are monitoring Tropical Storm Gonzalo as it travels across the Atlantic Ocean.
The National Hurricane Center expects the depression to strengthen, bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to portions of the Gulf Coast and potentially bring tropical storm force winds along the Texas coast. And while it is too soon to tell whether Gonzalo will have an impact on our area, we are approaching the height of hurricane season. Now is the time for customers to make sure they are prepared.
Below are some helpful storm preparation tips. Additional tips can be found on our Storm Center at www.entergynewsroom.com/storm-center/preparation.
- Stock up on nonperishable food, medicine, baby supplies and pet food. Keep a first-aid kit and manual handy. Have a non-electric can opener on hand.
- Store or purchase water. The American Red Cross recommends one gallon of water per person per day.
- Check emergency equipment such as flashlights, battery-operated radios, extension cords, emergency generators, etc. Buy extra batteries.
- Keep extra cash on hand. An electrical power outage may prevent you from withdrawing money from automatic teller machines or banks.
- As a storm approaches, turn your refrigerator to its coldest setting. If the power goes out, this will keep food fresh longer. Keep the refrigerator closed – most food will stay frozen or fresh up to 12 hours.
- Turn off and unplug unnecessary electrical equipment, especially sensitive electronics.
- Place critical documents such as birth certificates, insurance documents, special pictures, etc., in a safe box.
- Fill your vehicle’s gas tank.
In addition to the traditional items that you would place in an emergency kit, it is important to remember to have a supply of face coverings and sanitizer during the COVID-19 pandemic. And if you see crews in the field, please keep your distance from them and their work zones so that everyone can limit exposure and remain healthy and safe.
If a storm strikes, remember the safe way is to stay away. There is no way to know if nearby electrical equipment is energized. It’s best to treat it as energized and report downed power lines immediately to 1-800-ENTERGY or 1-800-9OUTAGE.

- Storm Center website – includes storm safety, preparation and restoration information that is updated regularly.
