05/10/2019

Texas

Severe weather blew through the Entergy Texas service territory during the night, causing extensive and widespread damage. The storm included high winds and rain and caused a significant number of outages for customers. At 5:00 pm, approximately 29,000 Entergy Texas customers are without power. Entergy workers are currently in the process of restoring power.  We are also bringing in additional resources to support our restoration effort.

We have experienced significant distribution damage in some areas, including Beaumont and Port Arthur.

Additional severe weather is expected through Saturday, which could delay restoration efforts and result in additional outages.

Safety is an Entergy key value and always comes first. Then, restoring power is a core value and first order of business. We are restoring service where it is safe to do so. First, we restore power to critical community infrastructure and essential services such as hospitals, water treatment plants, police and fire stations, and communication systems. Then, we will concentrate our resources on what gets the greatest number of customers restored the fastest.

Orange, Vidor

Throughout the day Friday, Entergy has restored power to about 900 customers in the Orange and Vidor areas. There are still approximately 248 customers without power as of 5:00 pm. Additional resources from across the state of Texas have arrived to assist workers in Orange and Vidor with assessments and restoration. There are now about 60 workers in the field in the Orange and Vidor areas. The damage assessment is now about 40 percent complete in the area. Crews will continue working to assess and restore power into the night. The current assessment reveals 6 broken poles that Entergy Texas is working to replace today and tomorrow. Entergy Texas employees and contractors are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible in the current conditions. Restoration activities and damage assessment continue in your area. Flooding and high water are preventing crews from accessing some areas. Weather forecast expect additional severe weather which could delay restoration. While we expect that most customers will be restored sooner, some customers should expect outages to last through Saturday, May 11 at 10:30 PM. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working as quickly as safely possible.

Winnie

As of 5:00 pm, there have been about 1,000 customers restored in Winnie and Anahuac, and there are still approximately 3,500 experiencing power outages. The large majority of outages in the Anahuac area have been due to transmission damage. However, the transmission outage assessment in the Anahuac area is now complete and repairs are in progress. Transmission line outages cause power outages for large numbers of customers and repairing transmission lines will help restore service to those customers. The assessment in the Winnie area is 25 percent complete, other areas including, Anahuac, Hankamer, Wellsville, Hampshire and Stowell are 20 percent complete. Known damage includes 8 broken poles, 1800 ft of wire and 3 transformers.  There are currently 15 employees and contractors working and there are 45 workers en route to the area to assist with restoration efforts.  As with any weather event, please be mindful of the following safety tips:

1.     Live wires can be deadly. Stay away from downed power lines. Call 1 800 9OUTAGE or 1 800 968 8243 to report downed or dangling power lines, poles or other damaged equipment.

2.     Do not trim trees or remove debris on or near downed power lines. Only power company crews or their contractors should remove trees or limbs touching power lines.

3.     Keep away from the immediate areas where crews are working. There is always the danger of moving equipment and the possibility of construction materials or limbs or overhead wires falling to the ground.

4.     If you plan on using a generator for temporary power, get a licensed electrician and disconnect from the utility electric system before hooking up to your home main electric panel.

5.     Do not run a generator in a confined space without adequate ventilation.

6.     Avoid using candles or other flammable devices to warm your home.

7.     Try to stay off the roads. More traffic in bad weather leads to more accidents, including more injuries and fatalities as well as accidents that can damage electrical poles and other equipment, creating outages and impeding the ability of crews to access and repair damage and slowing restoration.

8. If rising flood waters enter your property, shut off all breakers until it is safe to turn them back on.
