Small behavior changes, minor home improvements can impact energy usage

Entergy Arkansas often reminds customers to adjust their thermostat to have the greatest impact on their electricity usage to save dollars on their monthly bills, but home improvements can also affect how efficiently your home heating, ventilation and air conditioner system works.
From weather stripping windows and doors to changing air filters, small changes can add up to bigger savings. Upgrading windows to double-panes with insulation can make an even bigger difference. >A family in Helena last week received a new window to replace one that was old and ill-fitting in the family’s combination kitchen and living area, which will not only make the home more comfortable but also help the home’s HVAC unit work better. Jerlene Moore said she and her son, Elijah, were very grateful for the assistance.
The purchase and installation were funded by Entergy Arkansas through Delta Community Development and Law Center Inc., one of several mini-grants to help nearly a dozen families with special projects, from installing new HVACs and insulation to replacing ceiling tiles and drywall. Other projects included -
- Roof repairs and home weatherization for homeowner Alethea Sanders were made possible by a grant from Entergy Arkansas to El Dorado Humanity for Humanity.
- Our partners at BCD Inc., ICF and TAG Energy Savers laid insulation under the Russellville home of Ethan Eye, who has an older brick, ranch-style home. The floor insulation in the crawl space will help keep his home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

All these projects will help make the homes more energy efficient, requiring less electricity and therefore lowering usage and costs. Similar upgrades are available to qualified customers.
