Entergy Charitable Foundation Awards $91,000 to New Orleans Organizations
01/21/2015
NEW ORLEANS – Eight local nonprofit organizations were awarded $91,000 in grants by the Entergy Charitable Foundation to boost education, expand environmental programs, support economic development and help create poverty solutions in areas around the city.
As part of some $357,000 awarded to groups across the state, the grants bring the total awarded to nonprofits by Entergy shareholders in 2014 to more than $15 million, including $2.6 million from the Entergy Charitable Foundation. In some cases, Entergy New Orleans, Inc., contributed additional amounts to increase funding for local groups working to improve the lives of New Orleanians.
Awards included:
· $25,000 to the Greater New Orleans Development Foundation to work with New Orleans metro-area parishes to attract new businesses and investment into the region and to retain and expand existing companies.
· $10,000 to Eden House, to support energy-efficient repairs and operating costs at the facility that provides exploited women a safe and supportive home for two years, free of cost.
· $5,000 to the Silverback Society, a mentoring organization that provides young men inspiration and positive support on their way to a pleasant and prosperous life.
“A healthy, educated, environmentally safe and productive society benefits all stakeholders – our owners, customers, employees and communities,” said Patty Riddlebarger, Entergy’s director of corporate social responsibility. “At the same time, community outreach provides an outward and visible sign of Entergy employees’ longtime commitment to providing sustainable value through volunteerism.”
Entergy Charitable Foundation grants are offered annually by the foundation through two award cycles. The deadline for grant applications for the first cycle in 2015 is February 1. Applications and additional information are available at entergy.com.
