Entergy Charitable Foundation Grants $46,600 to State Organizations; Money is part of $1.5M awarded to groups in seven states

JACKSON, Mississippi – K-12 public school students in rural districts will benefit from one of the Entergy Charitable Foundation’s grants for the first half of 2016. The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy will use its grant to provide health services to these students through the Mississippi School Telehealth Network. It is just one of the more than 80 nonprofit organizations in seven states that received grants totaling $1.5 million from the company’s foundation. Organizations in communities served by Entergy Mississippi, Inc. received $46,600 in grants.

“We see it as a privilege to give back to communities to help people and organizations prosper,” said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO.

The Entergy Charitable Foundation provides monies focused on education, poverty solutions and environmental programs that improve the quality of life in communities served by Entergy. Applications for the foundation’s next grant award cycle can be submitted at “Our Community” at entergy.com through February 1, 2017.

“Making a difference in our communities through the Entergy Charitable Foundation is one of the many ways We Power Life for our stakeholders,” Fisackerly added. “Entergy shareholders – our owners -- provide the funding for charitable organizations that create vibrant, healthy communities. Our employees and retirees take an active role in their local communities to maximize benefits.”

Among the programs supported by 2016 grants are:

• Mississippi School for Mathematics & Science for a summer enrichment program to increase interest in STEM subjects and career fields while reducing minority and gender gaps in high school STEM course enrollment.
• 100 Black Men of Jackson to support "Mentoring the 100 Way," helping minority youth with challenging circumstances to increase school attendance and academic motivation.
• Juanita Sims Doty Foundation to support Ambassadors of the Evers Academy for African-American Males Mentoring Initiative that inspires young males of color in middle school to honor the life and live the legacy of Medgar Evers as they interact with role models and mentors.
• Mississippi Children's Museum Fall Festival: Pop into Comics, designed to encourage families to participate in reading and learning together, while celebrating children's literature.
• Mississippi Council on Economic Education for the Stock Market Game, boosting financial literacy for young Mississippians.
• Parents for Public Schools of Jackson for a pilot project to enhance and develop competencies for students and parents that promote high school graduation and workforce readiness in Greenwood and Leflore County.
• University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy for a technology-based network providing health services to K-12 students, health education to students and parents and training for school nurses in rural school districts across Mississippi.
• Mississippi Cultural Crossroads to support artistic and cultural activities that celebrate life in Southwest Mississippi, explore the art and traditions of other cultures, encourage individuals to develop and display their own unique talents, and facilitate meaningful, provocative dialogue and critical thinking around societal issues.
• Sunflower County Freedom Project to support a year-round course that prepares local high school students for the ACT test and success at the college level.
• United Way of West Central Mississippi to support volunteer training in community improvement impact areas of education, financial stability and health.
