Entergy commits to a six-point plan for customers across Louisiana
02/25/2025

As one of only two Fortune 500 companies based in Louisiana, Entergy sets out to mark a century of service to the state by committing to power progress in the future through an aggressive six-point plan that will be carried out over the next decade for the people of Louisiana.
The “Louisiana 100 Plan” is a series of six specific goals Entergy Louisiana has set for itself and its employees over the next decade to better serve our state. The plan outlines detailed targets for the affordability and resiliency of our power. It specifies how we can play a larger role in the state’s economic development and job creation efforts. And it sets a clear direction for how much more our company can invest in Louisiana non-profits and communities – both in dollars and in employee volunteerism for worthwhile Louisiana projects that benefit our neighbors.
“For 100 years, Entergy has proudly served this state, and with the Louisiana 100 Plan, we’re not just celebrating our past – we’re making a commitment to Louisiana’s future,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “This plan is a bold promise to strengthen Louisiana’s grid, invest in our communities and support the creation of thousands of jobs across our state. As we look ahead, our mission is clear: to keep Louisiana moving forward, together.”
The “Louisiana 100 Plan” is Entergy’s renewed commitment to our home state and the over 1 million customers we serve. With more than 5,100 employees living and working in Louisiana, we are dedicated to making a positive impact.
Our plan can be found at entergy-louisiana.com/100-plan, and we invite Louisianians to check it frequently as we will be updating our progress toward these goals on a regular basis. We will also be sharing this plan and our progress with the Louisiana Public Service Commission, the Governor, the Legislature and other state and local leaders who are also committed to Louisiana’s success.
Here is an overview of the six-point plan:
For Louisiana pocketbooks
Strive to keep Louisiana residential electric rates 100 points below the national average.
Despite bouts of inflation and fluctuations in natural gas prices, our residential electric rates remain below the national average. To accomplish this, we have invested responsibly in our power grid and driven operational efficiencies to provide benefits like renewable energy and enhanced grid resilience.
To make sure rates remain affordable, we are:
- Continuing to transform and diversify our power generation fleet by maintaining existing nuclear plants and incorporating more renewables.
- Maintaining membership in Midcontinent Independent System Operator, a grid operator that helps enhance reliability and operational efficiency for utilities in the middle of the U.S. from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Since joining MISO in December 2013, Entergy customers in Louisiana have saved hundreds of millions of dollars.
- Strategically investing in transmission and distribution grid hardening projects that would reduce storm restoration costs and result in significant cost savings for customers.
- Aggressively pursuing alternative funding sources like government grants to offset investment costs that may increase bills.
- Executing a regulatory blueprint that reduces fees like late fees and connection/reconnection fees and expanding a program that provides discounts to low-income older adults.
For Louisiana power
Strengthen the Louisiana grid by storm hardening more than 100 circuits across the state every year.
In the face of more severe weather patterns, we are hardening the power grid so that our company and dedicated workforce, communities and economy are more resilient and able to recover more quickly following major storms. Entergy serves 59 Louisiana parishes, including businesses and industries that are critical to not only local economies, but also the national and global economy, and we must continue providing them services they can depend on. Through comprehensive grid resilience programs, the company is poised to usher in a new era of grid reliability, resilience and economic prosperity.
To build resilience into our power grid, we are:
- Executing comprehensive grid resilience plans that were approved by the Louisiana Public Service Commission and New Orleans City Council The plans include replacing or upgrading thousands of utility poles with stronger ones designed to withstand higher winds and more extreme weather events. Ultimately, the plans will help avoid billions of dollars in future storm restoration costs.
- Continuing to inspect, maintain and improve the power grid through reliability projects that include trimming trees and limbs away from power lines, replacing utility poles and power lines and installing smart devices that add automation to the electric system.
For Louisiana prosperity
Boost the Louisiana economy by attracting $100 billion in new industrial projects with reliable power and competitive rates.
Driven by world-class infrastructure like an extensive pipeline network for feedstocks, robust transportation options like railways and deepwater ports and an available and adaptable workforce, businesses and industries are looking to expand or move operations into Louisiana like never before. While the state has been known as a leader in oil and gas production, it is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the next energy and technology boom. By attracting world-renowned companies like Meta to our state, we’re helping ensure the next generation has opportunities within our borders.
To drive economic development and create new jobs, we are:
- Partnering with the State of Louisiana and its economic development arm, Louisiana Economic Development, as well as regional economic development organizations and educational institutions that are exploring modern energy production and building the workforce of the future.
- Continuing efforts to retain existing businesses and industries and recruit new economic development projects to Louisiana. This will help keep jobs and create new ones, putting more money back into the pockets of businesses and people that live in our communities.
- Making sure there is reliable and sustainable power today and into the future to serve existing businesses as well as those that want to call Louisiana home. This keeps Louisiana attractive to people and their families and keeps us competitive, increasingly the likelihood developers and others choose Louisiana over other states.
For Louisiana paychecks
Create 100,000 new, non-utility jobs with strategic power investments across Louisiana.
Louisiana offers opportunities in a variety of job sectors like agriculture, energy, healthcare and manufacturing, for example. In addition, high-tech and existing industries need reliable power, and emerging industries the state is recruiting are looking to locate in areas that have sustainable and affordable power.
To make sure businesses and industries have the power and workforce they need to operate in Louisiana, we are:
- Strengthening partnerships with state and local agencies, organizations and educational institutions.
- Investing in programs and initiatives that develop the workforce of the future. Entergy has provided millions of dollars to technical colleges and universities to help students earn manufacturing certifications and enhance engineering programs.
- Building out infrastructure like transmission lines and adding sustainable energy the state needs to support business and industrial growth, which ultimately leads to high paying jobs and economic activity.
For Louisiana partners
Invest $100 million in shareholder dollars to Louisiana communities, schools, charities and non-profits.
To create opportunities for all Louisianans and foster meaningful community growth, collaboration is essential. At Entergy, we believe in the dual power of charitable giving and strong partnerships. By concentrating our philanthropic efforts on education and workforce development, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability, we help build healthier, more vibrant communities. Achieving this vision requires teamwork, and we are thankful for the organizations and nonprofits that join us in working toward a better, brighter Louisiana.
To step beyond the grid and invest in our communities, we are committed to:
- Providing charitable contributions that support our philanthropic focus areas. Importantly, these donations do not affect our customers’ bills; they are funded by shareholders who invest back into the communities we serve.
- Advocating for and supporting programs like the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Entergy’s The Power to Care, which provide utility bill assistance to low-income customers, older adults and individuals with disabilities.
For Louisiana people
Give employees paid time off to volunteer in their communities, providing $100,000 in labor value every month to Louisiana non-profits.
Our employees are more than just local customer service representatives, engineers or lineworkers; we are your friends and neighbors, cheering on our young ones from the school bleachers. We take pride in serving our communities and are dedicated to seeing them thrive. That is why many of our employees volunteer their time at local schools, churches and food pantries, giving back to the communities we call home.
To enhance the quality of life for everyone, we are committed to organizing, promoting and participating in volunteer efforts. These initiatives include efforts to clean up and protect the environment, reduce hunger, create healthier communities and keep the spirit and culture of Louisiana alive for future generations.
May concluded, “The Louisiana 100 Plan helps underscore that we’re 100% committed to making the next 100 years even better than the last – because this is our home, too. We’re from Louisiana and for Louisiana.”
