Crews Nearing Complete Restoration
LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Entergy crews expect to have power restored tonight to about 95 percent of the customers affected by the Sunday night thunderstorms that caused significant damage to Entergy's southwest Louisiana electrical grid.
Some 3,000 customers were still without power as of 4 p.m. Monday, but Entergy expects to have power restored to all but approximately 1,350 customers in Calcasieu Parish by later tonight. With the exception of a few isolated cases, Entergy expects to restore power by 8 p.m. Tuesday to all customers who can safely receive electrical service.
A line of strong thunderstorms moved through the region late Sunday night, producing high wind and large hail and knocking out power to 27,537 customers in Acadia, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis parishes.
"Our crews will continue working as safely and quickly as possible to repair the extensive damage caused by Sunday's storms, which downed trees and electrical lines, and get the lights back on for all of our customers who can accept power," said Greg Guilbeau, senior region manager of customer service.
Residents with damage to customer-owned equipment – such as the meter base, external breaker box or weather head - will need an electrician to make repairs before power can be restored to their property.
Entergy's Louisiana utilities remind customers to stay away from downed power lines. Report them by calling 1-800-9OUTAGE. For real-time progress on restoration work see the View Outages feature at entergy.com.
