Entergy Crews Spring into Action as Storms Pound Southwest Louisiana
04/19/2015
Extended Outages Expected in Some Areas
LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Sunday night a line of severe thunderstorms produced high winds and large hail, causing severe damage to the electrical grid in Acadia, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis parishes. Crews quickly responded restoring power to the majority of the 27,537 affected customers on Sunday night. As of 10:45 a.m. Monday, about 5,700 customers mostly located in Calcasieu Parish were still without power.
"The damage to the system was significant, but our crews worked through the night and are still on the scene today working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power," said Greg Guilbeau, senior region manager of customer service for Entergy Gulf States Louisiana.
With the exception of a few isolated cases, Entergy expects to restore power by Tuesday at 8 p.m. to all customers who can safely receive electrical service.
Residents with damage to customer-owned equipment – such as the meter base, external breaker box or weather head – will need an electrician to make repairs before power can be restored to their property.
Entergy's Louisiana utilities remind customers to stay away from downed power lines. Report them by calling 1-800-9OUTAGE. For real-time progress on restoration work see the View Outages feature at entergy.com.
Entergy's Louisiana utility companies provide electric service to more than one million customers through the operating companies Entergy Louisiana, LLC and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. and natural gas service to nearly 93,000 customers in the greater Baton Rouge area through Entergy Gulf States Louisiana.
