Entergy Earns EEI Emergency Assistance Award
06/25/2018
Entergy has received the Edison Electric Institute's Emergency Assistance Award for its exceptional power restoration efforts following several nor’easters that impacted Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Jersey in March 2018.
This is the 21st consecutive year EEI has awarded Entergy with a national storm restoration award. Including this year's honor, Entergy has received 29 awards from EEI for its restoration and mutual-assistance work.
“This year’s award demonstrates that we stay ready to safely and quickly restore power to customers, regardless of the location, timing or type of major storm,” said Mike Vaughan, Entergy’s system storm incident commander. “We are very appreciative when other companies provide us with assistance, and we are happy to do the same when needed.”
Entergy earned the Emergency Assistance Award for its efforts to help restore power to customers after the numerous, severe nor’easters impacted the East Coast and produced high winds and blizzard-like conditions. In total, Entergy sent 154 line workers to four impacted states for 16 days to assist with recovery efforts.
The Emergency Assistance Award is presented to EEI member companies to recognize their extraordinary response assisting other electric companies in power restoration efforts after service has been disrupted by severe weather conditions or other natural events. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process, and the awards were presented during EEI’s Annual Convention in San Diego.
“Mutual assistance is a hallmark of the electric power industry. When a disaster impacts a region, neighboring electric companies quickly respond to assist,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “The work of Entergy’s crews to restore power to customers impacted by these nor’easters is a terrific example of mutual assistance in action and our industry’s commitment to serving our customers.”
