BATON ROUGE, La. – Entergy Louisiana has signed a long-term agreement to power the expanding Shintech Louisiana, LLC manufacturing complex in Iberville Parish.

Entergy Louisiana will provide up to 750 megawatts to the Shintech Louisiana manufacturing facilities near Plaquemine. Shintech Louisiana is a wholly owned subsidiary of Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd., the world’s largest PVC producer.

Shintech Louisiana announced July 24 it is investing $1.49 billion to develop a new chlor alkali and vinyl chloride monomer production facility and expand its existing polyvinyl chloride plant. In addition, Shintech Louisiana is currently constructing a previously announced $1.4 billion ethylene cracker at its Iberville complex.

“This agreement is a continuation of a very successful, long-term partnership between Shintech Louisiana and Entergy Louisiana,” Yasuhiko Saitoh, president of Shintech Inc., said. “Entergy Louisiana’s low-cost, reliable power allows our Iberville Parish facilities to compete effectively in the global marketplace.”

Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana, said, “Our continued partnership with Shintech demonstrates Entergy Louisiana’s ongoing commitment to power the growth of our state and build a brighter future for Louisiana and our customers.”

Shintech Louisiana’s expansion announced on July 24 is expected to create 2,000 to 3,000 construction jobs and 120 new direct jobs once the project is complete. Shintech has operated in Louisiana since 1999 and currently employs 420 employees at its facilities in West Baton Rouge and Iberville parishes. The company’s operations also support another 500 contractor jobs.

Entergy Louisiana, LLC provides electric service to more than 1 million customers and natural gas service to nearly 93,000 customers in the greater Baton Rouge area. With operations in southern, central and northeastern Louisiana, the company is a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation.

Entergy Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, including nearly 9,000 megawatts of nuclear power.
