Entergy Mississippi Rates to Drop Beginning in February
01/26/2016
With $6.60 decrease, bills are more than 22 percent below the national average
JACKSON, Miss. -- Entergy Mississippi customers will see rates drop beginning with February bills. The typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month will pay $6.60 less, or just over $93. That's more than 22 percent below the national average.
Electric rates rise and fall year-to-year based on many factors. Reasons for Entergy Mississippi's current low rates:
· falling natural gas prices;
· our purchase of more highly efficient, low-cost natural gas power plants;
· upgrading Grand Gulf Nuclear Station to get 13 percent more low-cost nuclear power from the same plant;
· joining MISO, which gives us access to power from multiple sources around the country and creates a more competitive market, and
· streamlining our company to make our operations more cost efficient.
"Low rates are good as they give customers more disposable income to spend in their local communities," said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO. "Low rates also help our state attract large employers to Mississippi, which creates jobs and growth."
Bills are a combination of rates and usage. To further lower bills, customers can use less electricity by being more energy-efficient. For tips on how to lower your usage, visit Entergy's Save Me Money Web page or sign up online for one or more of our Entergy Solutions programs.
