Entergy, Pontchartrain Conservancy “sweep” Pontchartrain Basin ahead of hurricane season

$35,000 donated to conservancy for continued community and education efforts
METAIRIE, La. – Armed with gloves, garbage bags and trash grabbers, Entergy employees and volunteers combed through the areas around Lake Pontchartrain on Wednesday to help pick up debris and plant mulch and pine straw, among other activities, as part of its annual Storm Aware and Prepare initiative.
This cleanup and hurricane preparedness event, hosted by the Pontchartrain Conservancy and sponsored by Entergy Louisiana, provides residents in southeast Louisiana an opportunity to clean up debris, which improves drainage and water flow and mitigates flooding.
“We’re committed to building a more vibrant and thriving community” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “We’re proud to partner with the Pontchartrain Conservancy again this year to step beyond the power grid to clean up, beautify and improve the conditions in a region many of us call home.”
Entergy has long been a leader in environmental stewardship and the company continued that tradition by providing $15,000 to the Pontchartrain Conservancy’s Storm Aware and Prepare initiative as well as a $25,000 grant to support STEM educational programming for students and teachers.
Entergy’s contributions will go toward supporting the nonprofit’s mission to drive environmental sustainability and stewardship through scientific research, education and advocacy — all of which benefit the Pontchartrain Basin and surrounding communities.
“Entergy's longstanding support for Pontchartrain Conservancy is truly remarkable," said Kristi Trail, Pontchartrain Conservancy executive director. "They understand the value of investing in environmental sustainability, and for that we are truly grateful. Together we will be working to keep our waters clean, to educate the public and restore Louisiana's beautiful wetlands. The future of our state and its people depend on the leadership of corporate stewards like Entergy."
Since 2001, Entergy shareholders have invested nearly $350 million projects and programs for the benefit our customers and communities in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.
