Entergy’s Louisiana Companies Monitoring Two Tropical Systems
08/21/2020
Customers should stay weather aware and make plans
Entergy’s Louisiana companies are monitoring and planning for the potential impacts of two tropical systems forecast to move into the Gulf of Mexico in the coming days. Customers are encouraged to do the same.
While the strength and paths of tropical depression 14 and Tropical Storm Laura remain uncertain, crews from Entergy Louisiana, LLC and Entergy New Orleans, LLC are on alert and preparing to respond should the systems impact the companies’ service territories.
As the peak of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season nears, there has already been a record-breaking 12 named storms, including the latest, Laura. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently released its mid-season update, indicating that the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season has the potential to be one of the busiest on record.
The time to be storm ready is now. Customers can find preparedness tips, including advice on creating a personal storm plan and putting together an emergency supply kit, on the Entergy Storm Center.
Along with standard storm preparations, Entergy employees are navigating the COVID-19 pandemic by taking additional steps. These include traveling separately when possible, adjusting crew staging locations and increasing the use of drones. Due to the additional measures crews must take, restoration may take longer, especially where there are widespread outages. Additionally, crews will continue to practice social distancing and we ask that customers do the same. For their safety and yours, please stay away from work zones.
Stay Prepared!
Monitoring severe weather threats is a full-time job: 24/7, 365 days a year. When there’s a severe weather threat, Entergy uses forecasts and computer models based on experience with previous storms to predict an estimated number and duration of outages that could possibly occur. Based on those estimates, the company calls on restoration workers from around the country to safely get the power back on as quickly as possible for customers.
Entergy continuously works to plan and improve the process of assessing damage, positioning personnel to the right place with the required materials and restoring power. Because safety is essential, we encourage customers to make it a top priority for themselves and their families. Important safety tips, such as staying away from downed power lines and debris, not walking in standing water and following local authorities’ instructions, can be found on the Entergy Storm Center.
Stay Informed
Staying informed before, during and after a tropical system strikes is just as important as making personal storm plans. Here’s how Entergy’s Louisiana companies work with customers to stay updated:

In addition to safety and preparedness tips, Entergy’s shareholders renewed its partnership with the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program by committing $500,000 for the next two years to help our communities better prepare for and recover from potential disasters.
