Entergy Texas Amasses Significant Workforce Following Strong Thunderstorms; Scouts, Line Workers, Vegetation Workers and Others Number 1000

Beaumont, Texas -- With a goal of restoring power as safely and as quickly as possible, Entergy Texas, Inc. has amassed a workforce of some 1,000 workers to restore power following the severe thunderstorms that struck Southeast Texas early this morning.

Power outages peaked at 8 a.m. today when some 40,065 customers were left without electricity. By 3 p.m., the number had 22,525 customers remaining without power, most of them in the hardest hit areas: communities in and around Navasota, Huntsville, Conroe, Cleveland and Silsbee.

All power is expected to be restored for those who can take power in Huntsville, Navasota, Conroe and Silsbee by noon Wednesday, April 29. Power in the Cleveland area is expected to be restored by 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 28. Power in the Beaumont and Orange areas, which was hit to a much lesser degree, is expected to be restored by 10 p.m. tonight.

"The storms that came through were particularly strong, including straight-line winds," said Vernon Pierce, customer service vice president for Entergy Texas. "We’ve seen a lot of very serious damage with trees knocked into our facilities causing poles and power lines to come down."

Pierce added a safety precaution, reminding customers to stay away from any downed power lines and to assume that any power line they come across is live.

Customers can keep track of power outages and restoration progress at View Outages on the Entergy Texas website. Additionally, customers who sign up for myAccount online text messaging will receive messages from Entergy letting them know when power is out, when it’s expected to be restored and when the restoration is complete.
