Entergy Reminds Customers Security Lighting Can Make a Difference

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – For many in the Little Rock area, Tuesday’s recognition of National Night Out is a chance to prove the strength and resiliency of their neighborhoods and to shine a light on crime- and drug-prevention efforts.

Daylight saving time ends Nov. 2, and shorter days mean more darkness and more opportunity for criminals. Entergy Arkansas wants to remind customers that security lighting can be an economical and effective crime-prevention tool. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, effective security lighting is the single most effective crime deterrent.

“The idea behind National Night Out is to create awareness of ways people can prevent crime,” said Entergy’s Pat Waters, director, lighting sales and service. “Properly lighting your home or business takes the cover of darkness away from lawbreakers and is an important step in preventing crime.”

This year, according to the Little Rock Housing and Neighborhood Programs department, the West Central Neighborhood Resource Center, along with the John Barrow Neighborhood Association, will host their annual National Night Out event tonight, October 7, at Union Park, 36th and Walker Streets, 5-8 p.m. Entergy supports this event, and company representative Michael Johnson will attend to visit with customers and explain how Entergy Arkansas can help reduce crime in Little Rock by installing security lighting.

By calling 1-866-603-0192 or completing a short form online at entergy.com, customers can let Entergy Arkansas know they are interested in having a security light installed at their home or business. Within two business days, a lighting expert will contact them and help the customer determine what best suits their needs.

Security lights are available in a variety of sizes for home and business use. Customers are charged a set monthly fee for the lights, with the cost added to existing bills. The charges vary depending on the light’s wattage. If a pole must be installed to set up the lighting, the company charges an additional one-time fee, which can also be added to their monthly bill.

There is no fee for regular maintenance, which includes bulb replacement. If the light and pole are destroyed in a storm event – such as a hurricane or tornado – they will be replaced free-of-charge to customers.

Entergy Arkansas provides electricity to approximately 700,000 customers in 63 counties. Entergy Arkansas is a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation, an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, including more than 10,000 megawatts of nuclear power, making it one of the nation’s leading nuclear generators. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.8 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy has annual revenues of more than $11 billion and approximately 14,000 employees.
