10:30 a.m. Update - Crews Continue to Assess Damage and Restore Power in Louisiana
07/15/2019
Workers continue to restore power in the areas hardest hit by Barry in Louisiana. Since Barry first started affecting the state, we have amassed a workforce of more than 4,000 and restored power to more than 275,000 customers.
As of 10:30 a.m. Monday, there were approximately 23,000 customers who remain without power in Louisiana, with concentrations in the greater Baton Rouge area as well as Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes.
In Baton Rouge, there is a significant amount of damage to electrical equipment in residential backyards. These repairs usually take more time, given the challenge of accessing those areas with equipment and working on ground that is softened by excessive rain. Properties may be inaccessible by line trucks, and will require specialized equipment and additional personnel. In some cases, linemen may have to climb poles in order to complete repairs. If you don’t see us working near you, keep in mind that we may be working on another part of the system that you can’t see but that is needed to get power to you.
As we restore service in other parts of the state, we will reassign crews to areas still without power. Some may notice that neighbors have power even while they are still without. This could be caused by the two areas being served by different parts of the electrical grid, like circuit breakers providing power to separate sections of a home.
Customers in the Terrebonne and Lafourche parish areas may visit our mobile Customer Information Center through 7 p.m. today at Ellender Memorial High School southside parking lot, 3012 Patriot Dr., Houma, La.
