Entergy Mississippi storm update – 6/15/23, 8 p.m.
06/15/2023
The strong, gusty high winds and hail that entered our Entergy service territory on yesterday afternoon and overnight, caused fallen trees and broken tree limbs resulting in outages and damages to our facilities. Outages as of 9:00 pm last night were at 15,589 and 10, 972 customers remain without power as of this report. Our damage assessment continues as we’ve discovered damaged poles, downed power lines, and damaged transformers and crossarms. A workforce of scouts, vegetation crews, line workers, and support personnel have been diligently working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible throughout this event.
Customers in the areas of Brookhaven, Cleveland, Greenville, and Grenada that were impacted by this latest storm are expected to be restored by 10 pm tonight for all that can safely receive power. Customers in the Indianola area that are able to safely receive power are expected to be restored tomorrow morning. Please remember, Entergy restoration workers cannot restore power to a location with a damaged meter base, conduit or weather head (the metal pipe extending upward from the structure with electrical cables inside). These items must be repaired by a qualified electrician before our workers can restore. Learn more about the electrical equipment that serves your home.
Due to the damage from yesterday’s storm along with accessibility issues, we do expect customers in the areas of Kosciusko, Sallis, McCool, Carthage, McAdams, Durant, West, Lexington, Tchula, Goodman, Pickens, Camden, and Vaughan to be without power overnight with estimated restoration times extending until Saturday for some. This is subject to change as damage assessment continues and if there are any additional weather impacts. As we continue to complete our damage assessments, restoration times will be updated.
For updated estimated restoration times throughout today, view our outage map at www.entergy.com/view-outages. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as our crews safely work to restore customers’ power.
As with any weather event, please be mindful of the following safety tips:
- Live wires can be deadly. Stay away from downed power lines. Call 1-800-9OUTAGE or 1-800-968-8243 to report downed or dangling power lines, damaged or downed poles or other damaged equipment.
- Do not trim trees or remove debris on or near downed power lines. Only power company crews or their contractors should remove trees or limbs touching power lines. Again, stay away from downed power lines.
- Keep away from the immediate areas where crews are working. There is always the danger of moving equipment and the possibility of construction materials, limbs or overhead wires falling to the ground.
- If you plan on using a generator for temporary power, get a licensed electrician and disconnect from the utility electric system before hooking up to your main electric panel.
- Do not run a generator in a confined space without adequate ventilation. Use them only outdoors, following all manufacturers’ safety guidelines.
- Turn off any electrical appliances that can easily be turned to the off position until power is restored.
