Entergy New Orleans and Entergy Louisiana storm restoration update – 3/23/22
03/23/2022
Utility crews are continuing to make progress restoring power to communities in Orleans and St. Bernard parishes that were affected by severe weather and a tornado last night. They expect to restore power to:
- New Orleans East customers who can safely accept service by late tonight
- Approximately 1,500 of the 2,300 affected Arabi-area customers tonight and the remainder who can safely accept service by sometime tomorrow
There are some customers who saw structural damage to their homes and an electrician will have to make repairs, followed by an inspection, before Entergy can reconnect service.
At the peak, approximately 25,000 customers were without power in Louisiana because of the storms. By Wednesday afternoon, crews were able to drop that number to approximately 2,800, a roughly 90% reduction.
Last night’s severe weather took down utility poles and power lines and impacted portions of the company’s transmission system, including causing significant damage to a substation in Arabi. However, crews have devised a plan to reroute power and restore customers who were typically served by the damaged substation once distribution equipment (the poles and wires you typically see in a neighborhood) in the area is ready to transport power.
Given the level of damage to the company’s electric equipment, additional resources have been brought in to support local crews and contractors on the ground.
Although debris removal, traffic and accessing hard-to-reach equipment in the backyards of homes in New Orleans East have caused some delays, crews will continue working as quickly, and above all, as safely as possible to repair, and in some instances, rebuild the electric system. The company is also maintaining contact with local officials to ensure search and rescue efforts progress safely.
Customers are encouraged to keep safety top of mind by staying away from downed power lines and other electric equipment, as well utility crews and their worksites. For information regarding your specific area, please visit the View Outages map.
