Hurricane Ida Daily News Conference – 9/2/21

09/02/2021

After turning on power early Wednesday for some customers in the greater New Orleans area since Hurricane Ida ravaged southeast Louisiana, Entergy has continued to make significant progress assessing damage, repairing infrastructure and restoring power over the last 24 hours. Deanna Rodriguez, Entergy New Orleans President and CEO, and Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana President and CEO provided an update on that progress in this recorded news conference. Key takeaways are:

  • We have our first restoration estimate: We expect to restore the majority of customers in Greater Baton Rouge who can take power by Wednesday, Sept. 8.
  • All damage assessments should be complete today, Thursday, and once complete we will be able to begin providing restoration estimates for other areas.
  • We have restored a total of 137,000 customers in all of Louisiana, from a peak of 904,000 who lost power due to Hurricane Ida.
  • We were also able to bring the first source of power to St. Bernard Parish getting the first lights on in Arabi, Louisiana.
  • In addition, sources of power were brought back to St. Charles Parish in Norco and in parts of Jefferson Parish.
  • In New Orleans, we have restored power to parts of Uptown, Midtown, the Central Business District and additional neighborhoods in New Orleans East and the Carrollton area.
  • In addition to working tirelessly to restore the system, Entergy New Orleans is in close coordination with the City of New Orleans to identify critical locations in need of backup generation to power up first responders and community shelters
  • Prior to the storm, Entergy New Orleans received a request from the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans for help in locating backup generation ahead of the storm and in response, the company provide 10 generators to help S&WB meet its storm response needs.
  • Across the state, we have brought critical customers back online, including a number of hospitals in the state:
    • Ochsner’s main campus in Jefferson, the largest hospital in the state.
    • East Jefferson
    • Lady of the Sea
    • Ochsner O’Neal Lane
    • Woman’s Hospital
    • Baton Rouge General Mid City
  • In the coming days, and into the weekend, we’re going to start seeing a lot of progress.
