Eight days after being struck by one of the most destructive hurricanes to ever hit the United States, we have restored more than half of the 902,000 Louisiana customers who lost power due to the storm.
We again made significant progress overnight despite record-setting damage restoring a total of 467,000 customers in all of Louisiana. We’ve restored power to nearly all our customers who can take it in the greater Baton Rouge area.
Progress continues to be made in restoring some of our commercial areas in the greater New Orleans area. Crews are working hard to bring back pharmacies, banks, gas stations and grocery stores—essential community service providers that our residents need to return home, even if they don’t yet have electricity at their houses.
We are monitoring a tropical disturbance in the Gulf. Fortunately, all indications are that it is unlikely to develop, but unfortunately, it could bring a lot of rain to our already-saturated region.
The greatest danger after this type of storm remains downed power lines and electrical equipment. There is no way to know if a downed line is energized or not, so if you see one, keep your distance and call 1-800-9OUTAGE (800-968-8243).
